AI Debate Practice

AI Practice Built for World Schools Debate

DebatePilot lets students practise World Schools speeches when teammates or coaches are unavailable, with immediate feedback tailored to the speaker role they chose.

What You Can Practise

World Schools debate practice, one skill at a time

Substantive and reply speeches

Deliver timed speeches in any of the eight World Schools positions and receive feedback shaped by that role's duties.

Rebuttal, weighing, POIs and casing

Short Debate Gym drills isolate one skill at a time so you can practise debate online in focused sessions.

Past-round analysis

Submit a round you have already debated and see how the clashes resolved, where the decision turned and what to fix first.

Debate foundations

Topic guides and quizzes on international relations, economics, ethics and more, so background knowledge keeps up with technique.

What makes DebatePilot different from a general AI chatbot?

A general chatbot does not know which speech you are giving or what that speech is supposed to achieve. DebatePilot is built around the World Schools format: you choose a motion, a side and a speaker role, deliver a timed speech, and the feedback is written against the duties of that position.

Practice is also structured as a cycle rather than a conversation. Every attempt produces a diagnosis, a repair exercise for the weakest element and a chance to retest, so the AI debate practice moves toward a specific improvement instead of open-ended chat.

How does role-specific World Schools practice work?

You pick the motion and speaker role, take prep time, and speak into your device as you would in a round. The speech is transcribed and assessed against what that role owes the debate: definitions and case setup for first speakers, rebuild and extension for seconds, prioritisation and comparative weighing for thirds, and crystallisation without new matter in replies.

Feedback is organised around Style, Content and Strategy, the same categories World Schools adjudicators use, and highlights evidence from your own words rather than generic advice.

What skills can students practise?

Rebuttal, comparative weighing, asking and answering POIs, case construction and mechanism design, structure and signposting, and full-round strategy. World Schools speaker training also covers delivery: pace, clarity and how persuasively you address the judge.

Because drills are short, students can practise when teammates or coaches are unavailable, then bring the harder questions to their next team session.

Can DebatePilot replace a debate coach?

No. DebatePilot supplements coaches and adjudicators rather than replacing them. It is designed for the hours between team practices, coaching sessions and tournaments, when there is no one available to listen to a speech and respond.

An AI debate coach can give you fast, repeatable reps and a consistent framework. Human coaches bring judgement, context and accountability that software does not have.

How should students use AI feedback responsibly?

Treat debate speech feedback as one opinion, not a verdict. AI feedback may be imperfect, and you should evaluate it critically: check whether the point it makes is supported by what you actually said, and discard advice that does not fit the round.

DebatePilot does not guarantee tournament results and is not affiliated with the World Schools Debating Championships or any tournament body. Use it as practice, and keep the final judgement with your coach and your own reasoning.

How can coaches use DebatePilot with their teams?

Coaches can activate Coach Mode, create a team and set practice assignments, then review student progress in one place. That makes it easier to see who is drilling consistently and which skills a squad keeps struggling with.

The intent is to give coaches more signal between sessions, so live practice time can be spent on the things that genuinely need a human in the room.
